Realistic Offroad Physics: Mud, Sand and Traction

Why your server needs it

Plenty of servers keep a "no unrealistic offroad driving" rule because nothing stops a supercar from crossing a riverbed. With this resource, the ground does the enforcing. Cars sink into mud, sand, dirt and other soft surfaces, and only vehicles built for it get through the worst of it.

What the ground does

| Property | Effect |
|---|---|
| Depth | How far a vehicle can sink. Mud and wet sand can trap it completely. |
| Softness | How fast it sinks. Gravel slows the sink; wet sand and mud pull it down quickly. |
| Traction | Grip. Low traction cuts acceleration, braking and steering, so gravel and rocks cause skids. |

Each material has its own values, and vehicles visibly sink into the surface.

What the vehicle brings

The calculation reads suspension height, wheel size, driven wheels and AWD, weight, number of wheels, vehicle class, offroad tyres and the weather. Handling is tuned per vehicle type and class.
